GWR correspondence postcards
The Great Western Railway used several hundred different picture postcards for correspondence purposes and we hold a few examples of these in our collection. They can be found by selecting Correspondence cards within the 'Postcard collection/GWR postcards' option under the 'MEMORABILIA' menu tab. The vast majority of these cards were printed for the GWR by Wyndham & Co. of Acton in London using their own stock images. We have been able to gather images of many of these cards from various sources since 2014 and thought it would be useful to make them available for reference purposes. We maintain a list of all the cards known to us, and this can be accessed via the web page referenced above.
Wyndham Series - from 1912
A vast series of correspondence cards utilising standard Wyndham cards came into use from about 1912. These often had a blue outlined square near the top left corner of the address side containing the words In reply quote this reference. The address side of the cards were printed in red with the pro-forma correspondence wording overprinted in blue.
There were two slight variations of these cards which seem to have been issued concurrently. One series had a white border around the picture within which the image title and the reference number (for example 3907 The "Wyndham" Series.) was printed, in either red or black. The other had the words The "WYNDHAM" Series printed in red diagonally in the top left corner on the address side, and the image title together with its reference number (for example W8122) in white cursive script on the front.

Wyndham Series - 1913 to 1915
This set of 16 cards was printed by Wyndhams in 1913, 1914 and 1915, according to the reference numbers on the back. The image on the front was printed in green, brown or grey but regardless of the colour used the address sides were always printed in green. These cards had a reference number which indicated the year of printing in the top left corner of the address side, and the title on the picture side was written in either black or white towards the left with G.W.R. in the bottom right hand corner.
