Welcome to the 175th anniversary celebrations

The Didcot to Oxford branch line of the Great Western Railway opened in June 1844. On Saturday 15th June 2019 we’ll be celebrating its 175th anniversary.

There will be events at or near all five stations along the line – Didcot, Appleford, Culham, Radley and Oxford – and, courtesy of GWR, you’ll be able to buy a special combined bus/train/Didcot Railway Centre ticket for use all day on the Saturday.

Vintage Trains will be bringing their flagship locomotive, GWR number 7029 'Clun Castle' to Oxford specially to join in with the anniversary celebrations.

Don't miss what is going to be a great day for all ages and all interests. Visit one, a couple, or even all the venues. Using the combined ticket why not take advantage of the special 175 bus service operated by Thames Travel which will run a circular route hourly from Didcot? Or travel by any normal scheduled GWR train. Whatever you choose to do you will not be disappointed, but please check the timetables (see below) before making any plans.

Click or tap any of the menu items above to see what's planned at that location. Check out the photo competition and the other events leading up to the anniversary weekend too.

We hope to see you on 15th June!

The celebrations are kindly supported by Great Western Railway, the Greening Lamborn Trust, Brasenose College, University College, Oxfordshire Local History Association, Oxford Civic Society, the St Matthew’s Bridge Builder Trust,Oxford City Council (Hinksey Ward), Pendon Museum, Oxford Spires Four Pillars Hotel, The Railway Inn and Entikera Limited.
